Job Description

The Parks, Recreation and Sport degree program within the School of Natural Resources, University of Missouri, is accepting applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor position in Sport Management. This will be a 12-month, non-tenure track academic appointment with eligibility for future promotion to the ranks of Teaching Associate Professor and Teaching Professor. Competitive salaries will be commensurate with rank and qualifications. The University of Missouri campus in Columbia has a diverse student body of 30,000 students with nearly 400 undergraduates in the Parks, Recreation and Sport program.

Duties and responsibilities associated with this position closely couple with the creative and innovative delivery of our program curriculum emphasizing in sport management (https://cafnr.missouri.edu/degrees-and-programs/parks-rec-sport/). The successful applicant will teach eight course sections across the 12-month appointment, as well as engage in service and summer activities as is typical of all Mizzou faculty on a similar appointment. Course topics may include Foundations Sport, Business of Sport and Recreation, Governance and Policy in Sport and Leisure, Sport Economics and Finance, and specialty courses. Preference will be given to applicants demonstrating ability to design and deliver sport management courses with intellectual, contemporary and creative content supporting future professional employment. Selected applicants will also help develop internship opportunities and counsel students on professional employment throughout the year.

Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Sport Management, Sport Science, Sport Administration or other specific supportive sport degree by August 2020. Previous experience of at least one semester teaching sport management courses is required.


Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor and/or M.S. degrees in parks, recreation, leisure or tourism as components to a Sport Management doctorate are preferred. With this teaching appointment, an understanding of effective pedagogy, and use of innovative methods of curriculum delivery is critical.
