GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Dean provides strategic leadership and direction for the Division of Arts, Humanities, and Adult Education. The Dean is responsible for providing leadership and support to full and part-time faculty and staff assigned to the area including the departments of Language and Literature, Arts and Communication, Hyannis Center, Adult Education Center, Foreign Film Series, International Education and Study Abroad for Credit Courses, College Liaison to the Academy for Lifelong Learning, Student Media Board and the Student Radio Station, WKKL. The Dean will oversee external accreditation and periodic internal program reviews; encourage and develop excellence in teaching and curriculum development; support the use of technology and innovative pedagogy to improve student learning and success; monitor local, regional, and national trends to ensure programs meet workforce and transfer pathways; support faculty in new program development; implement College administrative and academic policies; hire part-time faculty and staff implementing collective bargaining provisions; develop the academic schedule; develop and execute divisional and area budgets; assist with writing and managing grants; and interface with K-12, post-secondary, and industry partners to create new programs and work to advance the College's mission and strategic plan.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
A. Personnel Management and Supervision
* Serve as the administrative officer of the Division and supervise full-time day faculty, adjunct faculty, program coordinators, and support staff, as appropriate.
* Encourage excellence in teaching and professional growth.
* Encourage strong interaction of faculty and staff within the Division.
* Implement collective bargaining agreements as they relate to members of the Division in consultation with the Human Resources Office.
* Make recommendations to the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs on recruitment, full-time and adjunct appointments, reappointments, salary adjustments, promotions, sabbaticals, tenure, and leaves of absence for all faculty in the Division, day and evening.
* Conduct at least one Division meeting during the Fall and Spring semesters.
* Assign teaching loads to Division faculty based on information assembled by the Department Chairs.
* Meet with Division faculty members as needed to discuss any matter of concern.
* Assist in overall development and administration of grant projects.
B. Curriculum Development and Management
* Assist the Department Chairs in developing and maintaining appropriate course curricula and assessments of student learning outcomes.
* Collaborate with Department Chairs, Program Coordinators, Advising and Counseling Center, and Associate Dean of Online and Blended Learning to develop semester academic schedules.
* Advise on programs and policies and coordinate them with other areas of the College.
* Review and recommend, as appropriate, revisions of all program requirements, catalog descriptions and prerequisites for all courses within the Division.
* Maintain appropriate records of programs and courses offered.
* Assist in the development of articulation agreements with other institutions.
* Communicate and implement academic policies.
* Provide information and support to other areas of the College.
C. General Administrative Duties and Responsibilities
* Coordinate the cost center budget.
* Approve all expenditures by members of the Division, regardless of source of funding.
* Assist in the development of the master schedule and assign faculty workloads within that schedule.
* Act on all faculty requests for attendance at professional meetings in consultation with the President or Vice President.
* Recommend travel requests to the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs.
* Ensure that Division policies and procedures are consistent with institutional policies and procedures.
* Represent the Division on College committees and serve on committees as assigned.
* Prepare academic information for a variety of publications including college catalogs and brochures, etc., in cooperation with the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs, and submit materials to the Director of Public Affairs and Marketing for publication.
* Attend the President's Leadership Council.
* Other duties as assigned.
D. Professional and External Affairs Management
* Attend and represent the College at statewide and other meetings, conventions, seminar, workshops, etc., as appropriate.
* Support and assist Department Chairs and Program Coordinators in matters of licensure and accreditation.
* Work with Department Chairs and Program Coordinators in assembling and maintaining appropriate advisory committees.
* Support outreach activities to businesses, K-12 schools, other colleges, and the community.
* Hold regular meetings with appropriate faculty and staff to review and evaluate policies and procedures.
* Master's degree from an accredited institution in one of the disciplines represented in the Division or equivalent.
* Three years of full-time, college level teaching experience.
* Three years of management experience in a post-secondary institution as the Department Chair or Dean.
* Experience in the development of cutting edge, academically sound programs that prepare students for the workforce and/or transfer to baccalaureate institutions.
* Experience using a variety of traditional and innovative pedagogical practices that promote student learning.
* Experience in curriculum development including the use of assessment strategies to measure instructional effectiveness and student learning outcomes.
* Experience working with diverse populations to create an inclusive and collegial campus climate.
* Demonstrated commitment to the comprehensive community college mission.
COMPENSATION: Full-time, Non-Unit Professional Position. Annual Salary Range of $105,000-$110,000, dependent upon qualifications.
