The Learning Commons is continuously building a pool of persons interested in temporary, part-time, hourly-intermittent employment. Position available on or after September 1, 2019 and ending on or before August 31, 2020. Possibility of reappointment based on budget, department needs, and job performance.
Under the general supervision of the Director of the Learning Commons and the day to day lead direction of the Testing Coordinator the incumbents will administer the WPST (Writing Proficiency Screening Test) and variety of other tests to University students in a confidential, standardized manner on specific dates throughout the academic year
Duties include but are not limited to:
Collect and account for all test materials according to instructions prior to dismissal of examinees; ensure that all materials, completed reports, and forms are returned to the Test Center Supervisor immediately following dismissal of examinees.
Assist the test center supervisor with counting and preparing test materials after a testing session.
Admit examinees according to directions; verify identification as required, and assign seats; complete the attendance roster and seating chart; distribute materials to each examinee individually and in serial number order.
Read aloud the specific instructions exactly as printed in the manual to the examinees, adhere strictly to allotted testing times and procedures, and remain in the testing room as required.Complete all forms required by each testing program.
Immediately report any irregularities to the Test Center Supervisor, document the irregularities on a "Supervisor's Irregularity Report" (SIR), and sign the SIR. The Test Center Supervisor will also sign the SIR.
Read the manual of instructions for each test (provided by the Testing Office) and be familiar with the policies and procedures for each test.Arrive at the test center at the specified time to receive materials and their room assignments.
Inspect the room for appropriate seating arrangement (all seats facing the same direction and all chairs placed directly behind those in the preceding row, with a minimum of (3 - 4 feet on each side), lighting, and ventilation. Where possible, a clock should be visible to examinees. Make changes when/where necessary. If a problem cannot be resolved, report immediately to the Test Center Supervisor for further instructions.
For those tests requiring the use of audio or visual equipment, check equipment prior to the beginning of the test, in order to assure familiarity with equipment and procedures.Verify and count test materials assigned and record serial numbers when required on the appropriate forms.
Ensure that no one inspects the contents of any test book or other secure test material at any time except examinees as they take the test. The staff may inspect materials only when it is necessary to investigate an examinee's report of a defect.
Promote good public relations by answering procedural questions and handling complaints or disturbances in a courteous and professional manner, referring individuals to the Test Center Supervisor when necessary. Direct and supervise testing staff who assist during a test administration.
Keep the hallways and surrounding rooms quiet during the test and breaks.
Other duties as assigned.
Education:High school diploma or equivalent. Experience:Some experience in the administration of standardized tests including but not limited to; the counting, and distribution and collection of test materials according to program requirements, completion of forms and documentation as it pertains to the test (i.e., seating charts, used and unused materials, candidate information cards, etc.) and knowledge of test standards.
$18.50- $19.50 per hour. (Depending on the qualifications of the successful finalist.)
