One full-time (10 months per year), tenure-track faculty position in the Art Department teaching courses in wet and digital photography, photo history and theory, web/online media, and studio photography, beginning in August 2018. The successful candidate will teach a combination of existing photography courses and will develop and teach new curriculum in the arts. In addition, they will be responsible for the ongoing development, support, and supervision of the Certificate of Achievement in Digital Photography program. They must have a thorough background in traditional and contemporary photography and a strong exhibition career in a professional gallery and/or museum setting.
MiraCosta students are diverse in age and represent all of California's major racial/ethnic groups. Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Teach any combination of photo/ photo history courses offered through the Art Department. These courses include but are not limited to: Beginning and Advanced Photography; Digital Media for the Visual Artist; Digital Photography; Applied Digital Photography; and Understanding and Appreciating the Photographic Image. 2. Assure that the photography program student learning outcomes are aligned with career needs, and that the program complies with District and State mandated requirements which include, but are not limited to, Strong Workforce Program metrics, Carl D. Perkins Grant requirements, biannual program reviews which validate labor market data, and the facilitation and incorporation of input from industry advisory boards.
3. Serve as lead instructor for photography, including the leadership and supervision of photo courses, program, and operations, encompassing oversight of classified staff, associate faculty, equipment, and photo labs. (E)
4. Work in collaboration with other full-time and associate (part-time) faculty in coordinating and maintaining currency of curriculum. (E)
5. Assist in the creation, review, development and evaluation of courses both online and on-ground, certificates, and programs in collaboration with other instructors as appropriate. (E)
6. Participate actively in departmental committees, subcommittees, and projects.
7. Participate in institutional service, which includes college-wide committee work, collegial governance, and contributions to institutional projects and initiatives.
8. Maintain currency in the profession and in applicable technologies.
9. Participate in the development, assessment and evaluation of student learning outcomes (SLOs). (E)

To be eligible for this position, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications:
1. a Master's degree in Fine Arts*, Art, or Art History; OR
(*NOTE: "Master's degree in fine arts" as used here refers to any master's degree in the subject matter of fine arts, which is defined to include visual studio arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and metal and jewelry art; and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the "Master's of Fine Arts" (MFA) degree when that degree is based on specialization in performing arts or dance, film, video, photography, creative writing, or other non-plastic arts. Individuals with a master's degree in photography must request equivalency.)
2. a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Art, or Art History AND a Master's degree in Humanities; OR

4. a fully satisfied, lifetime California Community College credential authorizing instruction in the appropriate subject matter; AND
5. sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
1. Experience with wet, digital, and studio photography, including alternative processes.
2. Strong work history and technical knowledge of analog process, including: knowledge of darkroom management; chemistry; safety; fine printing; zone system; alternative processes; medium and large format cameras; artificial lighting; lighting theory; strobe and continuous lighting; speedlights; flash metering studio lighting set ups for product/ portraiture/ architectural photography.
3. Strong work history and technical knowledge of digital process, including: digital cameras/ digital back/ tethered, inkjet printing (Epson printers), Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, Canvas, color management, monitor calibration.
4. Strong exhibition history in contemporary gallery and museum settings.
5. Knowledge of historical and contemporary issues, movements and artists in the photo art medium.
6. Strong knowledge of internet-related topics such as social media and web design.
7. Ability to write college-level curriculum related to art and photography.
8. Ability to effectively supervise lab staff and monitor equipment.
9. Commitment to providing culturally responsive instruction to students of diverse abilities, interests, and cultural backgrounds.
10. Commitment to examine, reflect, and modify instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support disproportionately impacted student populations with a goal of closing equity gaps (see Student Equity website at http://www.miracosta.edu/studentservices/studentequity/index.html).
11. Ability to contribute to the mission of the college.
Licenses and Other Requirements:
Working Hours: WORKLOAD AND OTHER EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION: This position is a 10-month, 176 day contract. The standard contractual work week for this position is forty (40) hours consisting of thirty (30) hours of instructional time, curriculum development, preparation and student evaluation (contact hours and preparation hours). The remaining time will consist of five (5) student hours (of which at least two (2) hours must be designated office hours), and five (5) institutional service hours. The person selected for this position will be assigned a Faculty Service Area (FSA) in Art and will be subject to assignment to any district facility during any hours of operation. Adherence to all District policies and procedures is expected.

19 images of your work (may include short video as one of the images) and an image script that includes the image number (1 - 19), title, date of completion, media, dimensions, and any other relevant information.
9 images of your students' work and an image script that includes the image number (1 - 9), media, approximate dimensions, and project description.
The names of the files you upload must include your first name, last name, and image number (e.g., SallySmith1.jpeg, SallySmith-student1.jpeg). The numbers used in the file names must correspond to the numbers in the image scripts.
HOW TO SUBMIT FILES: When ready to upload the images and scripts (30 files total), email HR technician Sandy Muryasz at firstname.lastname@example.org. You will be sent an email that will give you access to upload your files to a MiraCosta Google Forms page. All images should be uploaded by the closing date.
8. Two (2) recent, dated letters of recommendation, preferably written within the last two years, including one from an art colleague. Letters need not be confidential. If you already have letters of recommendation in your possession, you may attach them yourself when attaching the other required documents in the online application system. If you would prefer, or if your letter writers would prefer to submit a confidential letter, you can enter their names and e-mail addresses in the online system, and the system will send an e-mail requesting them to submit a letter of recommendation via our online system.
