MiraCosta College is seeking one full-time, tenure-track computer studies and information technology (CSIT) instructor who is focused on the academic success of all students and who will provide instruction throughout the breadth of the Department's courses. The successful candidate will share leadership roles with other full-time instructors in coordinating and developing curriculum. MiraCosta students are diverse in age and represent all of California's major racial/ethnic groups. Students take courses in the Computer Studies Department that meet days, evenings, weekends, and online. All courses are designed to meet business and professional level certification computer competency standards and are taught using the latest industry standard software. Roughly half of the Department's students transfer to a four-year university, while the rest pursue local General Education Requirements or a CSIT Department Degree, Certificate of Achievement, Certificate of Proficiency, or Professional Certification. The Department currently consists of two full-time faculty and many associate faculty members committed to providing students with a learning experience that is diverse, rich, and academically balanced. Our teaching facilities are well-equipped with recently remodeled rooms, excellent equipment, large student open labs, and strong technology support resources. Lab computers are upgraded based on an automatic replacement cycle.The Computer Studies Department is seeking a faculty member who will provide instruction on ground and online across a wide range of current CSIT classes. The person selected will not be a specialist with a single area of focus, but rather one who demonstrates the ability to teach and lead across multiple areas of the Department, including sub areas such as: foundation level computer skills, computer and management and business information systems, computer applications, data analytics, e-commerce, social media, technology as it relates to society, and network and security administration. Three of the Department's courses meet California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) General Education requirements, and all courses are CSU transferable. The person selected will be expected to share leadership roles with other full-time faculty and proactively engage in marketing classes online and in person to sustain and grow enrollment. The person selected will be expected to develop new and emerging curriculum in areas such as but not limited to: cyber security, device intelligence, computer forensics, interconnection of embedded Internet devices and corresponding dynamic systems (Internet of Things (IoT)), cloud technologies, social media and web 3.0, data analytics, etc.

Note that at MiraCosta College, Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development, and Multimedia are different disciplines housed in different departments. Experience in these related disciplines is a plus, but the person selected will not be tasked to teach or develop curriculum in areas other than Information Technology (CSIT). Representative Duties:
(E = essential job function)

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Provide instruction on ground and online in multiple areas of the Computer Studies and Information Technology (CSIT) Program. (E)

2. Participate in typical departmental and faculty functions such as service on hiring committees, performance of faculty evaluations, collaboration with staff, and participation in department meetings. (E)

3. Work in collaboration with other full-time instructors of the Computer Studies Department in coordinating and maintain currency of curriculum and mentoring and supervising associate faculty in CSIT courses. (E)

4. Assist in developing and maintaining instructional support materials for CSIT courses.

5. Assist in the creation, review, development and evaluation of CSIT courses both online and on-ground, certificates, and programs in collaboration with other instructors as appropriate. (E)

6. Recruit students and promote the CSIT Program through participation in various forms of digital and in-person marketing, including leadership and attendance at college-sponsored events and high school outreach. (E)

7. Build links with local employers, including facilitating internships, job placement, and advisory board participation. (E)

8. Participate in college-wide committee work and collegial governance.

9. Participate in the development, assessment and evaluation of student learning outcomes (SLOs). (E)

Minimum Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications:

1. a bachelor's degree (or higher) AND two years of professional experience (either full time or equivalent part time) directly related to the teaching assignment; OR

2. an associate degree AND six years of professional experience (either full time or equivalent part time) directly related to the teaching assignment; OR

3. the equivalent. Applicants who do not possess a degree that meets the requirements listed above must attach an equivalency narrative and supporting documentation at the time of application. Instructions can be found at ? use the guidelines under Section C; OR

4. a fully satisfied, lifetime California Community College credential authorizing instruction in the appropriate subject matter; AND

5. sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications:
1. A Master's Degree in a computer or information technology related field with related professional certifications.

2. Significant industry experience in a computer or information technology related field.

3. Experience with engaging and innovative teaching practices in both on ground and online classes to encourage student success.

4. Demonstrated ability to think with agility both creatively and critically, and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both in oral and written forms.

5. Demonstrated ability to work closely and collaboratively with students and colleagues in support of a positive, productive, and professional academic environment.

6. Demonstrated success teaching across a wide variety of computer technology and information systems classes.

7. Experience building links with local employers, including facilitating internships and job placement.

8. Experience engaging in digital and in-person student marketing and outreach to sustain and build enrollment. Strong interest in developing student engagement through participation in the Department's club, ClubIT, and other student-focused success and community building initiatives.

9. Experience developing new and cutting edge community college courses and certificates in areas such as but not limited to: cyber security, device intelligence, computer forensics, interconnection of embedded Internet devices and corresponding dynamic systems (Internet of Things (IoT)), cloud technologies, social media and web 3.0, data analytics, etc. Interest in leading and teaching in these areas.

10. Commitment to the community college mission of providing lower division instruction for students of diverse abilities, interests, and cultural backgrounds.

11. Commitment to examine, reflect, and modify instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support disproportionately impacted student populations with a goal of closing equity gaps (see Student Equity website at

Licenses and Other Requirements:

Working Hours: WORKLOAD AND OTHER EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION: This position is a 10-month, 176 day contract. The standard contractual work week for this position is forty (40) hours consisting of thirty (30) hours of instructional time, curriculum development, preparation and student evaluation (contact hours and preparation hours). The remaining time will consist of five (5) student hours (of which at least two (2) hours must be designated office hours), and five (5) institutional service hours. The person selected for this position will be assigned a Faculty Service Area (FSA) in Computer Studies & Information Technology and will be subject to assignment to any district facility during any hours of operation. Adherence to all District policies and procedures is expected.
