This is a full-time position for a copy editor/reporter, who will work on the copy desk a majority of the time and work as a general assignment reporter as needed. We are looking for a competitive journalist who embraces traditional deadline pressure and the 24/7 cycle of the Web. The ideal candidate will have a bachelors degree and at least two years of experience reporting at a daily newspaper. This editor will work primarily 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday with other days and hours as needed. Essential Functions Write stories for publication, including descriptive details of events and backgrounds Edit and review stories for grammar, punctuation, formatting guidelines, style and content Design news pages Create and write valuable headlines and cutlines Generate postings for The Herald-Mail Website Research and report on specialized fields Shoot, review and edit video footage Perform other duties as assigned Essential Skills & Abilities Knowledge of libel/privacy laws Expert written and oral comprehension Knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop preferred Ability to multitask Good sound news judgement Capability to think creatively Able to communicate clearly and effectively Strong initiative and attention to detail Strong organizational skills Able to maintain a positive work environment This full-time position offers an excellent base salary, plus full company benefits, including 401K and paid vacation.
