We provide an array of direct services, supporting students on the college-going pathway through tutoring, mentoring, academic planning and counseling, leadership training, test preparation, college awareness and enrichment, and teacher professional development.

The MESA Schools Program, under the umbrella of the EPC, serves under-represented, low-income, or first-generation-college-bound students from Santa Cruz and Monterey counties, with the goal of preparing students for success in Science, Technology, Math and Engineering majors in college.

Initially, we support students enrolled in gateway mathematics and science courses through active learning problem solving sessions and peer mentoring. Along the way, we help students navigate our research university and the extracurricular STEM opportunities available to them on campus and elsewhere. Ultimately, we offer a community for students who strive for and commit to success in STEM at UC Santa Cruz. The ACE Program received the 1999 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring. Under supervision of the University Accounting Manager, the incumbent will applyprinciples of accounting to analyze financial information, interprets new and existing federal and state regulations; performs complex professional and technical accounting functions for the University and its related entities; reconciles accounting records, meets required deadlines, creates financial reports to meet operational needs; provides consultative services to supervisors in resolving accounting problems and other financial duties as listed.This position is a journey level professional accountant performing a full range of accounting skills while applying policies, governmental accounting standards and generally accepted accounting principles and practices to university and auxiliary financial activities.

Job Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts within appropriate guidelines. Apply problem solving skills and implement resolutions including process improvements and general ledger corrections. Recommend policy and procedural changes with generally accepted accounting standards, GASB and FASB regulation, and tax rules.
Monitor and review various fund transactions and balances. Follow-up as necessary with departments to resolve issues.
Cross train and "back up" other Accountants. Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Participate in monthly and year-end accounting close processes, including journal preparation and entry, analysis, evaluation and interpretation of financial data. Communicate with other departments as required to obtain needed information. Analyze complex accounting processes involving multiple feeder systems and provide recommendations for problem solving as appropriate. Prepare year-end journal entries and audit work papers.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience:Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting, business administration, finance or a closely related field OR a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in business related field with accounting course work of 15 units.
At least two years of experience working as an Accountant or Accounting Technician (or equivalent).
Experience/working knowledge of governmental and/or non-profit accounting methods and related laws, rules and regulations.
Experience with People Soft or other large ERP software, query, and databases.

Required Qualifications

General knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
General knowledge of office methods and procedures.
General knowledge of statistical and mathematical presentation of data.
Advanced proficiency with current word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems.
Ability to interpret and follow instructions and policy guidelines.
Ability to analyze financial and statistical data and draw conclusions.
Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques in finding solutions to complex accounting problems.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to communicate effectively with others inside and outside the unit, including conveying technical information to non-Accountants.

Salary Range
$3,664 - $7,073 per month plus excellent paid benefits. (Anticipated salary will be $3,664 - $4,030 per month, depending on the qualifications of the successful finalist.)

SUMMARY

The Activity Assistant supports the Director of Supportive Living to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Supportive Living Department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards and as may be directed by the Executive Director to ensure that an on-going program of activities is delivered. Responds to the interests of the facility residents and enhances their physical, mental, social and psychological well-being and be presented in a manner which embodies the mission and core values of Presence Health.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supports in the development of the activities for the unit; plans and implements the schedule for resident outings, evaluates current programs and initiates changes for improvements. Conducts activities that include residents at all levels of care. Attends outings as appropriate and monitor residents. Provides assistance to residents during activities as needed.

Provides medication reminders for patients as directed by the Unit Director

Participates in the development and implementation of resident, family and community events including fund raising events and celebrations. Contributes in facility planning and program development relating the recreational needs of the residents.

Provides feedback to Director of Supportive Living to assure equipment and supplies needed are available and in good working order. Participates in interdisciplinary teams to improve services, solve problems, resolve resident issues, etc.

Ensures department documentation is complete, accurate and timely. Aids with activities assessments for each new resident.
