The Office of Undergraduate Admissions recruits and selects the University's undergraduate student body in the School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Engineering. Each year, the admissions staff designs and manages a recruitment plan that attracts over 50,000 student inquiries; processes, reads, evaluates and renders decisions on more than 19,000 applications for freshmen and transfer admission; and enrolls a class of 1,300 freshmen and approximately 50-100 transfer students each year.
Reporting to an Associate Director of Admissions, the Admissions Counselor's administrative responsibilities include the full range of highly-selective recruitment and selection activities. The entry-level Admissions Counselor manages a geographic recruitment territory; represents Tufts at visits to high schools and college fairs around the country; conducts group information presentations on campus and on the road; reads and evaluates between 1,000-1,200 freshmen applications per year; and serves on the selection committee. Additional responsibilities may be assigned at the discretion of the Associate Director or Dean.
The Admissions Counselor:
* acts as the institutional liaison with all secondary schools and guidance personnel within an assigned recruitment territory;
* researches, plans and executes 4-6 weeks of recruitment travel, including individual visits to schools, college fairs, alumni admissions chairs and committees, regional student/parent meetings, and related educational programming;
* interprets the strategic admissions communications and marketing plan, as set by the Dean of Admissions, to ensure the University's core message is distilled to key audiences;
* counsels applicants, parents and guidance counselors on matters of admission and university policy;
* and prepares statistical analysis on the marketing and recruitment efforts and subsequent admissions experience from the assigned territory.
Basic Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree
* One (1) year of related experience as a student or professional
* Microsoft Office Word, Excel and related databases
* Valid US driver's license
* Some domestic/international travel as well as night/evening work is required
* Familiarity with a highly selective, residential undergraduate program in the liberal arts and/or engineering is required
* The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to articulate the attributes and benefits of a liberal arts and engineering education with clarity and confidence; possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated organizational prowess; and have the ability to work independently for concentrated periods
* Must successfully complete all appropriate background checks as required

Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Significant night/evening/weekend work is required. Seasonal workflow (January - March) expands the time commitment and obligations of the position.
