Job Description:

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Residence Life, the Coordinator of Residence Education (CORE) serves an important leadership role in creating an environment and experience that intentionally contributes to the academic and personal success of each resident student in support of the Department of Residence Life and Housing. The incumbent also serves as the comprehensive manager and educator for a residential building or area in a residential education program and housing operation for undergraduate students residing in traditional-, suite-, and apartment-style living. The departments' mission is to create safe, learning-centered, and inclusive residential communities. A CORE is instrumental in new initiatives within the department and division.

Residential Education

Facilitate, monitor, report and evaluate residential initiatives based on the RWU Student Life Division Curricular Model.

Implement residential curriculum model, encourage personal development, academic achievement, community living and social interaction.

Serve as an advisor to the living area's Hall Council.

Attend staff/student-planned community development activities and educational events, including, but not limited to at least one Inter-Residence Hall Association program.

Serve as a primary hearing officer for the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution, adjudicating cases involving alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct.

Facilities and Operations

Manage administrative aspects of the living area including administering room inventory reports, executing health and safety inspections, key inventories, room changes, and other details as related to the opening and closing of the respective living area.

Assume the overall responsibility of a residential living area(s), monitoring and reporting concerns related to the safety and facilities of the area.

Ensure that daily maintenance and custodial issues are effectively and efficiently managed within their area of responsibility.

Assist in facilitation of annual resident satisfaction survey.

Oversee the opening and closing of a residential living area as well as the transition to summer student and conferences housing.

Student Support

Meet individually with students and, when appropriate, with parents to assist them in making appropriate choices and utilizing appropriate resources to help foster success at RWU.

Serve as on-call professional staff, on a rotating basis, during weekend and evening hours, to respond to residential emergencies dealing with student behavior, mental health emergencies, and other situations that require an immediate response.

Provide and support student recognition initiatives and promote leadership opportunities.

Maintain a professional relationship with students assigned to the designated living area, offering assistance and support through regular student contact and conducting wellness checks upon request.

Staff Management

Supervise, mentor, evaluate and make recommendations for staff.

Actively participate in the facilitation of staff selection, rehire and placement.

Develop, implement and assess semi-annual training programs and weekly staff meetings for the purpose of staff education and on-going professional development.

Model and promote inclusiveness through staff training, and support of division and campus-wide Social Justice Initiatives.

Department Leadership

Actively participate in departmental, divisional and campus-wide committees, including a specific auxiliary assignment or special project, as assigned.

Be accessible, visible and present for large campus-wide programs, speakers, and athletic events.

Volunteer for at least one program during spring weekend and chaperone at least one senior class or Student Programs event.

Participate in new student recruitment and orientation events.

Additional Functions

Support the various programs and initiative of the department in addition to primary duties.

Accept responsibility for additional initiatives, as assigned, such as special projects, representing the department on campus-wide initiatives or participating in events.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in higher education, counseling, student personnel services, student affairs administration, or other relevant field.

Two years of experience in residence life and housing.

Experience using diversity, equity, and inclusion lens in delivering programs and services practice (i.e., staffing practices, supervision, training, policies, and programs).

Knowledge of equity and inclusion issues and laws that impact higher education and particularly community living (all gender spaces, Title IX, affinity based living learning communities, ADA compliance).

Experience in housing systems that include crisis management, student advising, program planning, and supervision of student staff.

Experience working with a learning outcome based residential curriculum.

Demonstrated skills in public speaking, facilitating conversations, and presenting to families, students, staff and other constituents.

Experience with student conduct, mediating student conflicts and restorative approaches to conflict resolution.

Experience planning and successfully executing programs, events, and trainings.
