The Panofsky Fellowship honors SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory's founder and first Director, Wolfgang K. H. Panofsky. It is intended to recognize exceptional and promising young scientists who would most benefit from the unique opportunity to conduct their research at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory.

The Fellowship is awarded without regard to a candidate's particular specialty within our programs. While an emphasis will be placed on the potential for innovation and growth of new opportunities as their career develops, the candidate's research plan should relate one or more areas within the general scope of the science program at SLAC (https://sites.slac.stanford.edu/cro/panofsky-fellowship). Candidates should be early in their career but have demonstrated experience at the postdoctoral level with clear potential for exceptional scholarship, breadth, innovation, and leadership. The appointment carries a five-year term at SLAC, with salary and benefits commensurate with the experience of the candidate and generous research support including funding for a postdoctoral researcher. The deadline for the 2020 applications is November 15, 2019.

The Academic Excellence (ACE) Program is designed to increase the success of a diverse population of UCSC students in their pursuit of bachelor's degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). ACE is an academic achievement and retention program, which is administered through the Division of Physical and Biological Sciences at UC Santa Cruz. Initially, we support students enrolled in gateway mathematics and science courses through active learning problem solving sessions and peer mentoring. Along the way, we help students navigate our research university and the extracurricular STEM opportunities available to them on campus and elsewhere. Ultimately, we offer a community for students who strive for and commit to success in STEM at UC Santa Cruz. The ACE Program received the 1999 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring. This lifetime award is administered by the National Science Foundation and is presented by the White House to individuals or programs that show a sustained and successful effort in mentoring students underrepresented in those fields.

Under the general supervision of the ACE Program Director, the ACE Learning Skills Advisor (ALSA) works to improve learning outcomes for STEM students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are enrolled in selected UC Santa Cruz mathematics and science courses requisite for their STEM bachelors' degrees. The ALSA leads and facilitates intensive, collaborative problem-solving sessions for these courses, holds weekly office hours for individual or small group support or advising, and conducts problem solving exam review sessions. In addition, the ALSA writes letters of recommendations supporting students' applications to extracurricular STEM opportunities as well as graduate and professional schools and contributes to the professional development of ACE student co-leader/peer mentors. In order to verify the success of the ACE Program, the ALSA monitors individual program participants' attendance in ACE Program Sessions as well as their overall university experience and progress. This is a non-academic position.

Using specialized knowledge of learning theory, counsels students and develops and implements programs for students to enhance their academic success.

Provides a limited range of professional knowledge and strategies related to learning skills for students. Works independently on standard program presentation. May receive guidance from higher level Student Academic Specialists in adapting counseling to specific learning styles and linguistic issues.

The History Department presently has 28 full-time faculty, three long-term continuing lecturers, a number of Unit 18 lecturers, and four administrative staff. The department offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees with approximately 250 undergraduate majors and 35 graduate students. The History Department also manages the Classical studies major and minor, German studies major, the East Asian studies minor, the Jewish studies major and minor, and the Greek and Latin language courses. The department offers a significant number of courses each year (115 lecture and seminar courses with over 150 secondary sections). Overall, the department annually enrolls 4,800+ undergraduate students and 60+ graduate students in its courses. The department appoints 70+ Teaching Assistants annually.

Under the direction of the department manager and undergraduate program coordinator/assistant manager, the incumbent is responsible for general administrative duties, curriculum and instructional support, event coordination, financial transactions, undergraduate program support, temporary academic personnel, development, and web support. Colleges, Housing and Educational Services (CHES) is a multi-funded organization within the Business and Administrative Services (BAS) division at the UC Santa Cruz. Under the general supervision of the Senior Director, College Student Life, the Associate Director serves as a senior member of the college staff. The incumbent has primary responsibility for managing the residential life and housing programs for two colleges which includes: residential operations and education, housing management, student engagement and activities, and student jurisprudence/behavioral management. The Associate Director formulates policies and procedures for residential life and housing programs; develops long and short term organizational goals for residential life and housing programs; represents their colleges and the larger CHES organization both internally and externally; and manages the operating budget and human resources of the residential life and housing program. In the absence of the Senior Director, the Associate Director will assume overall student life management responsibilities for the college. The Associate Director is responsible for building a diverse, welcoming and safe community for all residents and college affiliates.

Candidates should demonstrate an established interdisciplinary research program, and a successful history of external funding, that integrates behavioral and biological approaches to examine the multifactorial contributions to the development and/or maintenance of substance abuse.

This position is part of a series of strategic hires at Penn State to build scientific leadership and increase Penn State's capacity for high impact, interdisciplinary, translational, and community-engaged collaborations to combat substance abuse and addiction. BBH seeks a faculty member who is interested in and committed to participating in an interdisciplinary community of scholars at Penn State contributing to the mission of the new Consortium to Combat Substance Abuse (CCSA; https://opioid.psu.edu). Minimum Qualifications

Education &Experience:

Interpreter I: Any combination of formal training and relevant documented interpreting experience that demonstrates assurance of the skills appropriate for the level of the assignment is required. Typically,sufficient interpreting training or experience requires graduation from an interpreter training program and/or relevant documented interpreting experience. In addition, a wide acquaintance with academichigher education through attendance at a post-secondary educational institution may be essential to fullycomprehend and accurately interpret the concepts, language, and vocabulary used in the assignedinstructional, academic, and/or administrative situations.

Interpreter II: Generally, wide acquaintance with academic higher education through attendance at orgraduation from a four-year college or university may be essential to provide interpreting services at alevel required for the position assignment. In addition two years of relevant documented interpretingexperience in a variety of settings are needed to perform at the level required for position assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

National Interpreter Certification (NIC) Advances (NAD) Level 3 with Level 4 preferred for IIA; or newNIC NAD-RID certificate; RID certificates in both interpreting and transliterating and/or NAD 4 with NAD 5preferred, or new NIC Advanced or NIC Master NAD-RID certificate for IIB.
Possession of most current NIC Certification is preferred for both Interpreter I and Interpreter II.
Extensive experience in educational interpreting in university level curriculum preferred.
Completion of upper division coursework and/or BA/BS degree preferred
Experience with PeopleSoft for time tracking/reporting preferred.

Required Qualifications

Interpreter I level knowledge and abilities:Knowledge of the process on interpretation.
Knowledge of ASL and/or English sign system as required by the student(s) or the assignment.

This individual will also focus on implementation of digital giving strategies. This person will build solicitation emails, support the creation of digital giving pages and assist with the creation of ad hoc reporting requests. Additionally, the person in this role will manage the creation of appeal codes and ensure the accuracy of appropriate coding.

Qualifications include:

* Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / education.

* Superior written and verbal communication skills sufficient to write solicitations, draft proposals, create marketing materials and to prepare and deliver presentations to both small and large groups.

* Excellent time management and decision-making skills to prioritize work, meet deadlines for simultaneous projects, and make decisions using independent judgment.
