The Academic Advisor position will provide academic advising for students admitted to the Smith School's Undergraduate Program. Classified The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of California (UC) Davis, School of Medicine is seeking a dynamic academic physician-investigator for a full-time position in the Assistant/Associate/Professor, Regular/In Residence (50%/50%) series, to provide clinical service and teaching in neuropathology, and who can develop an independent hypothesis-based research program in an area of neuroscience, such as Alzheimer's disease or other neurodegenerative conditions, autism/neurodevelopmental disorders, neoplastic neuropathology. The expectation is that the candidate will spend approximately 30-50% clinical service and teaching and 50-70% research. Clinical duties will focus on surgical and autopsy neuropathology, though other subspecialty areas of anatomic pathology also could be considered based on the candidate's training and interests. Teaching duties may include clinical, didactic, laboratory and small group teaching of housestaff, medical students, graduate students, and students in other health professional programs, and participation in interdisciplinary clinical conferences.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build on the many neuroscience strengths in the department, UC Davis Health and UC Davis campus, including an established program in neuropathology, strong collaborative relationships with the Alzheimer Disease Center, MIND Institute, the Institute for Regenerative Medicines, Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the campus' Center for Neuroscience, Center for Comparative Medicine, School of Veterinary Medicine, the California National Primate Center, and more.

Requirements include MD or MD/PhD, board-eligible or certified in anatomic pathology and neuropathology, with an appropriate record of accomplishment in clinical service, teaching and research to meet requirements for appointment at the Assistant, Associate or full Professor level (50% Tenure Track / 50% In Residence). Licensure to practice medicine in California is required. The candidate must have successfully completed a neuropathology fellowship by July 1, 2019, or have two to five years' experience in a clinical or academic setting that includes teaching and research that would meet requirements for appointment at the Assistant/Associate/full Professor level. Other required skills include the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment, and the ability to build and maintain productive professional relationships with medical and technical staff, trainees, and others. Preferred requirements include current and active research grants with salary support and/or transferrable research projects in an area of neuroscience, such as Alzheimer's disease or other neurodegenerative conditions, autism/neurodevelopmental disorders, and/or neoplastic neuropathology.
